True spring color palette

True spring, also called warm spring, is the warmest of the springs: fully warm, light to medium in depth, and clear. Its colors are golden and sunny: coral, golden yellow, apple green and warm turquoise.

  • Cream#F3E5C5
  • Camel#C19A6B
  • Warm brown#8A5A33
  • Golden yellow#F2B91F
  • Apricot#F7A26B
  • Coral#F26B5B
  • Tomato red#E2412F
  • Orange#F28A1E
  • Apple green#8CC43F
  • Grass green#3E9F45
  • Warm turquoise#23B5A5
  • Clear aqua#6CCFD0
  • Cornflower#6E8FD6
  • Warm violet#8B6FC7

Cream and camel replace white and black as neutrals, with warm brown as the dark anchor. Coral, tomato red and golden yellow are the strongest colors near the face; apple green, grass green and warm turquoise are easy everyday accents, and cornflower and warm violet are the cooler end. Two or three warm brights worn together suit this palette better than one bright next to grey.

What makes it true spring

Undertone
Warm, and this is the defining trait. Every color in the palette has a golden or yellow base; nothing is greyed or blue-based.
Depth
Light to medium. The palette avoids very dark colors; warm brown and camel are about as deep as it goes.
Clarity
Clear. The colors are clean and lively. Dusty or smoky versions of the same hues tend to look flat on a true spring.

True springs often have golden blonde, strawberry, golden brown or red hair, clear blue, green or warm hazel eyes, and skin with a golden or peachy glow, sometimes freckled. These are tendencies, not rules; natural redheads, for example, turn up among the autumns as often as among the springs.

Hair colors for true spring

These hair colors come from the spring family. For true spring the warmest of them are the closest match: honey golden blonde, strawberry blonde and caramel balayage. Butter blonde, blonde and blonde highlights are the lighter options. Each one opens the shade, so you can try it on your own photo.

Colors to go easy on

  • Black#141414
  • Optic white#FFFFFF
  • Blue grey#7D8FA3
  • Dusty rose#C9989E
  • Burgundy#6E1530

Cool, dusty and stark colors are the usual mismatch: black, optic white, blue grey, dusty rose and burgundy. Near the face they can drain warmth from the skin and make it look grey. Swap black for warm brown and optic white for cream; away from the face, as shoes or a bag, these colors rarely matter.

Close seasons

True spring or true autumn?

Both are the warmest of their seasons, so warmth alone won't decide it. The difference is clarity and depth. True spring suits clear, lighter warm colors: coral, golden yellow and apple green. True autumn suits richer, more earthy warm colors: rust, mustard and olive. If mustard and olive look rich on you, look at true autumn; if they look heavy while coral looks fresh, true spring is closer.

True autumn color palette

True spring or bright spring?

Bright spring is clearer and slightly less warm, close to winter: hot coral, kelly green and bright blue at high intensity. True spring is warm first and bright second. If very saturated colors look loud on you but golden, sunny ones look right, true spring is the likelier fit.

Questions

What colors look best on a true spring?

Warm, clear colors of light to medium depth: coral, tomato red, orange, golden yellow, apple green, grass green, warm turquoise and clear aqua, with cream, camel and warm brown as neutrals.

Is warm spring the same as true spring?

Yes. Different color analysis systems use either name for the same season: the spring where warmth is the strongest trait, bordering true autumn.

What hair color suits a true spring?

Golden shades: honey or golden blonde, strawberry blonde, copper or golden brown, often with warm caramel pieces. Ash tones and very dark, cool colors usually work against the palette.

Should a true spring wear gold or silver?

Yellow gold usually sits best, along with brass and other warm, bright metals. Silver and platinum tend to look cold next to golden coloring; if you prefer them, shiny pieces suit this season better than matte ones.
